A well-used Country Park created on landscaped coal mine spoil heap, with two mile tarmac cycle track, leisure paths for cycling and walking, established woodlands, and wetlands full of wildlife.

Key habitats:
Restored colliery spoil tip with plantation woodland, ponds, lake, scrub, meadows and specialised habitats such as bare shale.

About the Site

The park covers 200 acres (80 hectares) and since its opening in May 2007, has been a safe off-road site for activities and leisure pursuits such as cycling (leisure, road, and mountain-biking), running, orienteering, geocaching, archery, walking, bushcraft and fossil-collecting.

Fowlmead has a two-mile Tarmac road cycling track which can be used by the general public and which is available for hire to clubs, organisations and individuals for cycling rides and events.

There are miles of leisure paths for walking and cycling around the site and in through the established woodland, and mountain-biking trails are being developed.

Visiting

By car 

Fowlmead Country Park can be found on the A258 approximately 2 miles from Deal. The main entrance is off the main roundabout at Sholden, between Cottington Fishing Lakes and the Old Lorry Farm Shop. At the rear entrance (Colliers’ Gate) access is limited to pedestrians and cyclists, and disabled access is limited at this entrance .

By train

Nearest station Deal (1.5 miles).

By bus

Route numbers 13 and 13A (Deal to Sandwich) pass close to the main entrance.

By bike

The rear entrance (Colliers’ Gate) is a 5 minute cycle ride from Southwall Road, Deal.
